(Washington, DC) -- Representative F. JAMES SENSENBRENNER, JR., (R-Menomonee Falls), today sent a letter to President Bush submitting the names approved by the Wisconsin Federal Nominating Commission for the vacancy on the US 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago. The names are:
David G. Deininger -- District IV Court of Appeals of Monroe
Thomas L. Shriner, Jr. -- Partner of Foley and Lardner of Shorewood
J.P. Stadtmueller -- Eastern District of Wisconsin Judge of Whitefish Bay
Diane S. Sykes -- Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice of Mequon
Sensenbrenner issued the following statement:
“I would like to thank the members of the Wisconsin Federal Nominating Commission for their hard work. The bipartisan commission has been successful in forwarding the names of four talented people to replace Justice John Coffey. I respect the role of the commission and the history behind it, and that is why I have forwarded all the names submitted by the commission to the President.
“Wisconsin has had a long tradition of using its Federal Nominating Commission to advise the President of the United States on his selection for the positions of federal judge and US Attorney in our state. Two years ago, along with Senator Kohl and Feingold, I helped in the formation of the current commission by selecting four of its twelve members. At that time, the commission was used to assist President Bush fill the positions of the newly created judgeship in Green Bay and US Attorneys in each of Wisconsin’s judicial districts.
“Although the White House is not limited by the commission’s recommendations, I hope President Bush will seriously consider these candidates. A great deal of work has gone into coming up with this slate of names, and selecting one of the commission’s suggestions will, I hope, speed that individual’s confirmation by the US Senate.”
