Beloit - Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin today announced the appointment of Wisconsin native and longtime Beloiter Helen Forbeck to manage her new Beloit office. Forbeck, who served Congressman Les Aspin in a similar capacity, began her work in Beloit on Monday, January 13, 2003.
"Helen's deep roots in Beloit and the surrounding region, and her depth of knowledge about the challenges the area is facing, are great assets. She knows the area and residents well," said Rep. Baldwin. "Her extensive background with both regional and national government will be an asset for my office and the constituents that I serve."
From 1991 until 1993, Forbeck served as Rep. Les Aspin's ombudswoman, where she managed his district office, represented the Congressman at local functions, and helped local communities and businesses secure and retain federal resources.
Forbeck's experience extends to the Beloit City Council where she served three terms and was elected the first female City Council president. While a council member, Forbeck led the fight for economic development initiatives for the public/private riverfront redevelopment (Beloit 2000), downtown revitalization, and worked to reduce the long-term debt of the city.
Following her service in his Congressional office, Forbeck joined Aspin at the Department of Defense, where she served as a Special Assistant in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, DC. Forbeck worked closely with senior officials in many levels of government, addressing personnel, contracting, legislative, military installations, and defense industry issues.
"My commitment to the people of Beloit is very strong," said Rep. Baldwin. "I wanted to make sure that the person running my Beloit Congressional office would have the depth of knowledge about federal and local matters necessary for the job, while at the same time having deep roots in the Beloit community. Helen Forbeck brings this knowledge and skill level to the job and will work closely with me to ensure that Beloit has the Congressional representation and attention that it deserves."
Ms. Forbeck has lived in Beloit for 24 years. She has two sons, two daughters, and is the proud Grandmother of nine grandchildren, including a set of quadruplets. She has been active in the community for years as a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, soccer coach, girl's softball coach, and a member of both the Beloit Planning and Beloit Parks and Recreation commissions prior to her service on City Council.
